(WFRV) – Stargazers and astronomy lovers alike may want to stay up late or set an early alarm, with the Full Strawberry Moon peaking early Wednesday morning.
The moon will reach its peak at 2:44 a.m. Central Time on Wednesday, June 11, but it will appear nearly full as it rises over the eastern horizon this evening.

To clear up a common misconception — no, a strawberry will not appear on the moon. The name “Strawberry Moon” was given by Native tribes who used this full moon as a sign to harvest wild strawberries during this time of year.
Of all the full moons that occur in a calendar year, the Strawberry Moon is considered the most colorful, as it takes a low, shallow path in the sky. In fact, experts say this year’s path is the lowest since 2006.
Wisconsin off to its fastest start to severe weather in the past decade
The moon is expected to appear reddish or pink in color, and the presence of Canadian wildfire smoke could help enhance those vibrant hues. Residents of northeast Wisconsin can expect great viewing conditions tonight with mostly clear skies and minimal cloud cover.
