GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The housing market is seeing record numbers. After a report from the Wisconsin REALTORS Association was released, the average price for a house sold in the state of Wisconsin was $330,000, leaving realtors stunned.
“It’s the law of supply and demand, there’s not enough homes,” says Mark Olejniczak, president of Olejniczak Realty, Inc. “Particularly in the lower price range, starter homes, and middle range, more balance in the luxury homes.”

Olejniczak has been selling homes in Brown County for over 45 years, and has never seen the housing market anything quite like this, and is leading to buyers having to make decisions.
“If we had more homes for sale that would be a very big positive, so that there wouldn’t be so much pressure on the buyers,” says Olejniczak. “Because the buyers now have to go out, find the house, have the realtor contact them, go out and see it quick, and have them make up their mind very quickly.”
Green Bay City Hall officials are continuing to find ways to assist buyers in getting them into their forever homes.
“And now that gap that is needed, you know, to get a down payment on a house,” says Will Peters, Green Bay neighborhood development specialist. “To get into a first-time home ownership opportunity has just become even more unreachable.”
With the market estimated to continue to rise and reach record high numbers, the goal is to stick together as a community to figure out a long-term solution.

“A real challenge as a community to address, but with help from the community partners,” Peters says, “and take that community approach to address housing insecurity and homelessness, we can make a dent.”
