FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – As Independence Day approaches, Fond du Lac Fire Rescue and the Fond du Lac Police Department are reminding residents to stay safe and know the rules when it comes to fireworks.
According to a Facebook post from the FDL Police Department, each year in Wisconsin, fireworks are responsible for an average of 19,500 fires. That includes 1,300 structure fires, 300 vehicle fires, and nearly 17,000 other types of fires.
FDLPD states that last year alone, approximately 9,700 people ended up in emergency rooms due to fireworks-related injuries.

Here is a list provided by FDL officials to better explain legal and illegal fireworks:
To help prevent accidents and fires, local fire and police officials will be out enforcing the city’s fireworks ordinance. Officials say the general rule is simple: If it leaves the ground or explodes, it’s illegal. Even if a vendor provides a permit, it doesn’t make the use of these fireworks legal.
For those looking to enjoy fireworks legally and safely, the city will host several displays this summer, including the Fourth of July show at Lakeside Park and fireworks after Friday night Fond du Lac Dock Spiders games.
More information about the fireworks ordinance can be found on the City of Fond du Lac’s website or by contacting Fond du Lac Fire Rescue
