WAUPUN, Wis. (WFRV) – After being convicted back in May, 27-year-old Dylan Mayne of Waupun was sentenced 20 years stemming from the 2023 fentanyl overdose death of his ‘close friend.’
Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced on Friday, June 13, that Mayne was sentenced to 10 years of initial confinement that will be followed by another 10 years of extended supervision.

Mayne was convicted by a Fond du Lac County jury of first-degree reckless homicide on May 2. The 27-year-old was responsible for providing fentanyl that caused the death of a friend of his on May 17, 2023.
In a criminal complaint obtained by Local Five, on May 17, 2023, officers from the Waupun Police Department responded to a home on Waupun’s Franklin Street after a witness called 911.
Authorities say the victim had 20 ng/mL of fentanyl in his blood, and another person suffered a non-fatal overdose from the fentanyl supplied by Mayne. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mayne, who was in treatment when officials first attempted to make contact with him, was found and arrested on May 15, 2024, on charges of first-degree reckless Homicide.
“Too many parents have buried a child from a fentanyl overdose,” said Toney. “We know prison sentences won’t end their pain, but we will continue to fight for justice on their behalf and fight to deter those from engaging in the distribution of fentanyl in the hopes of saving lives.”
This case was investigated by the Waupun Police Department.
